April 17th, 2013 The Lawton landrom episode

The day looked promising at first as the seasons first moderate risk was to setup over western oklahoma for the day.  Here are the morning views:

Heading west of Oklahoma city, the unusual temperature changes between the fronts caused some crazy passages of temperature change as I crossed back and forth along the front.  Here are a few images that I took as I passed through very dense fog and then began heading south towards Lawton, Oklahoma.

Entering back into the warm air, the possibility of something interesting to happen south was about to take shape according to the radar pulls. I gave up on the northern cell which didn't look all that interesting and continued onward to the Lawton cell.

As being the first really big chase of the season, there were lots of chasers out on the road, including some of my friends from the Channel 8, Mike Collier, Fred Williams, Jordan Overton. Finding a good place to view the store which was on a northeast track, I set up 5 miles south of I-44 and waited.

Although the possibility of a tornado was promising with a strong rotating wall cloud, the storm began to be undercut which ended any chance of seeing anything before dark.  The drive back to Bartlesville was extremely slow due to the heavy rains all the way home.
